About Us

The practice was founded By Dr Harold Hoyle in a small terraced house, 26 Ash Street, Bootle in 1955.  As the practice grew, Dr Hoyle bought the house next door and extended the surgery. Dr Steve Morris joined in 1982 and they later moved into a suite of rooms in Park Street Health Centre, Bootle. Many of our current patients will remember queuing in the corridor as there was no room in the tiny waiting room!

We moved into our present purpose-built premises in June 1998, built on the site of the old Palace cinema, though this was converted in 1959 into the Bootle Social Centre for the children of Bootle by May Logan, otherwise known as 'Auntie Margaret'.

In 1999 the practice took over the list of patients from Seaview Road Surgery following its closure and has continued to grow and develop since then. As well as attending to our patients, we now also run many health prevention and promotion clinics in an effort to generate awareness about relevant health issues and to improve the well being of our local community.

Practice Boundaries

The practice area covers Bootle, part of L30 up to Magdelen Square, some of L21 and parts of Litherland up to Gorsey. Unfortunately if you move to an address outside of this area you will be advised that you need to change to a practice nearer your home. (A map is available in the surgery)

Zero Tolerance Policy

Violent or abusive patients will not be tolerated at this practice. Occasionally patients may be violent or abusive towards the doctors, nurses or administration staff. The Practice reserves the right to remove these patients from its list and will do so in writing, in line with NHS and South Sefton CCG Policy. This is for the benefit of all our patients and staff.

SOUTH SEFTON EXTENDED ACCESS SERVICE

We work with our local network of practices to try to help to manage access, ensuring that we provide timely service to our patient population.  Through this work, we have funded an Extended Access Service that is run centrally, based at Litherland Town Hall, where patients can see GPs, Nurse Practitioners and Practice Nurses when appointments at their own 'home surgery' have been exhausted.  The service also operates face to face appointments at evenings and weekends, so has the additional benefit of being more convenient for may of our young working population.  In addition to the extra capacity, Extended Access Service also has the advantage of providing extra room space, which is at a premium in our practice.
